I was actually the second patient ever in their new detox facility, and I want to say—I was extremely impressed. First off, the medical staff was incredible. True professionals. They handled every angle of care and did their absolute best to make sure I felt as little discomfort as possible during some gnarly opioid withdrawals. Special thanks to the nurses—Sandy, Christine, Jasmine, and Veronica—who were attentive, compassionate, and consistently on point. And huge appreciation to Dr. Diaz and his wife. The communication was stellar—no fluff or runaround—and Dr. Diaz followed through on everything he said he was going to do. He genuinely cared, and that showed. He even got us all personal FM radio headsets, which was HUGE for the healing process. Little things like that go a long way when you’re in the thick of it. The facility itself had a really peaceful vibe—pretty ranch-like setting, small and intimate. There weren’t many patients, so we definitely got more personal attention. It felt like we mattered. There’s an uncovered back porch where you can soak up the sun, and in my experience, sun, sweat, and music are just as essential to detoxing as any “helper meds.” They even let detox patients use the hoops during set times—and if you know, you know. Getting some shots up does something powerful for your nervous system during withdrawal. Speaking of “helper meds,” they also made sure I was set up with a few extra days’ worth in case PAWS crept in post-discharge. That kind of thoughtful care is rare, and I’m beyond grateful for it. Now, it’s a brand-new place, so sure—there were a few rough edges. No live-action sports during the NBA playoffs (tragic, I know), and I wouldn’t have minded a few bags of Oreos to snack on. But really—only a fool would expect a brand-new facility to hit every single note on Day 1. I’m confident they’ll get the streaming and snacks dialed in soon. Truth be told, they could’ve been playing Christmas Carol reruns and I still would’ve been content—the comfort and quality of the detox itself were what mattered most. I also had the chance to meet the people running the show—Dr. Mayer and the West Point Colonel (also Dr. Mayer). The Colonel has that “get sh*t done” energy, but he’s also approachable and sharp. He doesn’t seem like the type to half-ass anything, and that mindset clearly trickles down to the staff. His wife helps run the place and matches (if not exceeds) his energy—strong leadership, strong team, strong culture. And I absolutely have to mention one of the best counselors I’ve ever worked with—and I’ve worked with plenty: Kermit. That man brought the fire. He has this gift for reading people’s strengths and weaknesses, and a presence that’s kind of like Tony Robbins with Barry Manilow’s swag. Even on days when you don’t feel like participating, Kermit will pull you in with some Jedi Recovery Mind Trick. I’d pay just to work with him again—that’s how much value he brought. Lastly, shout-out to Lisa and Heather for doing their best to make sure we had everything we needed—even if it meant running around to make it happen. Their hustle didn’t go unnoticed. All in all, Blue Heron Recovery made a huge impact on me. With the foundation they’ve built, I have no doubt it’ll be the top choice for detox in San Antonio in no time—if it isn’t already. Personally, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Laura BostonJanuary 12, 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Blue Heron was absolutely the best place for me with my alcohol addiction. I have been sober since September 26th, so 109 days. The staff is caring, helpful and offer so much love and concern for their clients. Christine and her husband, Dr. Maher, are the owners, and they have made this facility so welcoming. They are personally involved with their clients. The property is quiet, sereen and beautiful. The counselors spend a lot of time in the classrooms offering much help and needed advice. Each person is assigned a counselor, in which they meet one-on-one once a week. Everyone is so welcoming and they make you feel at home. I got very close to Lisa, Jim, Heather, Greg, Madelyn, and, of course, Beau, the parrot. I cannot say enough about this rehab facility. I learned a lot and the entire staff truly helped me with my addiction. They will help everyone with any substance addiction. Definitely, a Five Star facility for me. Blue Heron Recovery is a very Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere, my counselor Greg is an awesome person very professional and takes the time to listen to each and every person in our group sessions. It was my pleasure meeting Greg and working with him to better myself, I was very fortunate to be a part of this Out Patient Group. I will admit it was hard in the beginning of the sessions but attending everyday made me feel like I belonged and Greg helped me realize I was not the only one with an addiction, I felt comfortable talking to others in our sessions which made things a whole lot better and easier for me to see what Life should be like without struggling with an addiction. I owe Greg lots of Thanks for everything I’ve learned and experienced during my time at The Blue Heron Recovery. God Bless 🙏 Jose Michael Lopez 04/18/2024 Kristin StewartMarch 27, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Blue Heron has exceeded my expectations.
