If you are ready to begin your addiction recovery journey, you may be considering drug rehab in San Antonio. At Blue Heron Recovery, we offer three different programs for addiction treatment, allowing you and our recovery team to identify the level of care best suited to your needs.
Outpatient Rehab vs. Inpatient Rehab
Before we look at the different types of outpatient rehab, it’s important to understand the differences between outpatient and inpatient rehab.
Outpatient rehab allows you to get addiction treatment while still living at home. Inpatient rehab means that you will live at the recovery center during treatment.
Inpatient or residential rehab, as well as medical detoxification, can be recommended for those who have a severe addiction, a severe co-occurring mental health disorder, or withdrawal symptoms that require constant medical supervision. Research has indicated that individuals with significant mental health challenges may experience a greater likelihood of positive outcomes when receiving treatment in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.
Outpatient rehab is suitable for individuals who do not require continuous medical monitoring. In order to be considered a suitable candidate for outpatient rehab, it is important to possess a certain level of mental and physical consistency. If you do not have life-threatening symptoms, outpatient rehabilitation can be just as effective as inpatient rehabilitation. If you have obligations that make it difficult for you to attend inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab can also be a suitable alternative.
What Is Included in Outpatient Rehab Programs
There is a wide range of outpatient rehab programs available, each tailored to meet your specific needs. You have the option to engage in both group and individual therapy sessions. You will also have the opportunity to delve into understanding your addiction and developing strategies to prevent relapse.
In addition, certain programs offer assistance with managing medications. By implementing this approach, individuals can effectively reduce triggers and count on a supportive system that promotes accountability.
Types of Drug Rehab Programs at Blue Heron Recovery
Blue Heron Recovery offers three different options for outpatient drug rehab. We provide a range of treatment options, including a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and outpatient therapy (OT). Every program is tailored to address various needs and levels of required treatment.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The partial hospitalization program is a highly intensive form of outpatient treatment. You will dedicate most of your time to your recovery while still being able to return home each evening. This option offers greater flexibility compared to inpatient treatment, allowing you to continue with your daily life while focusing on your recovery.
This is a commonly suggested option for individuals struggling with a serious addiction. You will have limited spare time to contemplate engaging in or exposing yourself to harmful substances. Instead, you will experience a supportive recovery environment while having the opportunity to return to the familiarity of your own home.
What PHP Looks Like
The PHP program runs from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Inpatient treatment is the typical option after detox, but if you have other responsibilities that make it impossible for you to attend inpatient rehab, you may choose to begin PHP immediately after detox. Activities, lectures, group sessions, and individual sessions are all part of this level of treatment. You’ll also have the chance to participate in community events, attend recovery groups, utilize the clubhouse, and get an invitation to the weekly alumni gathering, which takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The normal term of attendance at PHP is one month, and it gives 32 hours of treatment each week.
Who Is PHP Right For?
Partial hospitalization is recommended for people who:
- Are leaving residential treatment
- Have withdrawal symptoms that require medication management
- Don’t have a strong support system
- Feel they are likely to relapse without some supervision
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Many people confuse the PHP and IOP programs, but there are some important differences. An intensive outpatient program provides a balanced treatment option that enables individuals to maintain their regular routines while receiving the necessary care. The IOP program is well-suited for individuals with a moderate level of addiction or those who have important obligations to fulfill.
If you are in school or have a job, you can attend IOP classes in the day or evening, whichever is most convenient for you. This allows you to handle your responsibilities while still focusing on your recovery.
What IOP Looks Like
Monday through Friday, patients have the opportunity to attend IOP treatment in the morning or the evening. Participation in community events, recovery meetings, and the use of the clubhouse are just a few of the enrichment possibilities available to you at this level of care, in addition to weekly individual sessions, groups, lectures, and activities. At 7 p.m. every Thursday, there is an alumni gathering as well. IOP usually lasts for three months and consists of eleven hours of therapy each week.
Who Is IOP Right For?
IOP is a good choice for those who have:
- Graduated residential rehab or PHP
- Mild or moderate addiction
- Mild physical withdrawals that don’t require close medication management
- Responsibilities that limit the time they can spend in recovery programs
Outpatient Therapy (OT)
Outpatient therapy is particularly suitable for individuals who have successfully finished a PHP or IOP program and require some assistance in readjusting to everyday life. You will still need to spend some time at the recovery center, but the duration is significantly shorter compared to other programs. With our outpatient therapy, we recognize the importance of providing assistance that fits seamlessly into your daily routine.
What Outpatient Treatment Looks Like
Weekly individual sessions are a typical part of outpatient treatment, which also provides opportunities for continuous support, including participation in community activities, family sessions, recovery groups, and clubhouse usage. The usual length of treatment at this level is six months.
Who Should Choose Outpatient Treatment?
Outpatient treatment is a good choice for people who:
- Have mild addiction
- Do not require any medical supervision
- Have already completed an IOP or PHP program
- Are not able to make a major time commitment
