New program for families navigating substance use disorders and how to support loved ones
SAN ANTONIO — The holidays are supposed to be a picturesque time with loved ones, but the reality is that the holidays can be challenging, especially when families are affected by substance use. Blue Heron Recovery, an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center, is offering a free holiday survival class on Wednesday, December 15, at 7 p.m.
This one-day family program is available and free to anyone interested in additional services and resources regardless of treatment status. The program incorporates various topics related to substance use disorders such as managing expectations, maintaining boundaries, healthy communication, family support, and restoring love throughout the holidays. Space is limited. Please reserve attendance at info@blueheronrecovery.com.
“This class is designed to support the entire family and navigate the stresses of the holidays.” Christine Varela Mayer, PhD., a licensed chemical dependency counselor and CEO of Blue Heron Recovery, said. “We are offering this class to help families engage in practical, genuine, and healthy behaviors.”
Blue Heron Recovery is located on the 18-acre wooded Los Patios campus and is supported by alcohol-free restaurants, shops, and services. Los Patios is open to the public to provide an integrated recovery model of sober services to promote healthy living and community for all.
